From Family Tradition to Tech Innovation: Why Logistics Is Personal for Me
Hi, I’m Johana — third of six siblings, born in Danlí, El Paraíso, Honduras. I spent my early years in the small village of Santa María, in the Jamastrán Valley. When I was ready to start school, my mother sent me to Danlí to live with an aunt who would become like a second mother to me. That moment marked the beginning of my journey into independence, education, and leadership.
From a young age, I was encouraged to excel in academics. I worked hard to become a top student and had the honor of representing my schools in several events and competitions. In 2009, I moved to Tegucigalpa to pursue university studies.
In 2012, I graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning the top spot in my International Relations class. I then entered the field of institutional relations and spent the next ten years working in the maritime industry in Honduras. Over time, I became an independent consultant and entrepreneur — always driven to build something meaningful.
Thanks to a scholarship, I earned a Master’s in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden, with a specialization in Logistics and Shipping Management. I'm also pursuing a Master’s in Economics and Finance at the Catholic University of Honduras — also on scholarship.
Today, I proudly serve as Operations Coordinator at Jett Sender, the logistics app built under United JetPackers — a company my husband and I co-founded after both losing our jobs in 2021.
But Jett Sender is more than just a startup to me. It’s part of my DNA.
For over 20 years, my family — especially my mother — has been involved in shipping small packages between Honduras and the U.S.. Through this business, my siblings and I grew up learning the trade. In fact, each one of us developed our own delivery routes. The success of our family depended on it — it helped pay for our education, put food on the table, and gave us purpose.
Jett Sender isn’t an idea. It’s a proven model, validated by thousands of travelers like my family — real people who’ve made a living by turning travel into opportunity. Now, through technology, we’re scaling that experience to empower others across the country and beyond.
It’s personal. It’s real. And I’m proud to be part of it.
